Frequently asked questions

Why is encoding and decoding the same?

ROT13 shifts each letter 13 places in a 26-letter alphabet. Applying it twice shifts 26 places — a full loop — so the same operation both encodes and decodes.

Does it change numbers and punctuation?

No. ROT13 only rotates the letters A–Z and a–z. Digits, spaces and symbols pass through unchanged.
