Editing PDFs without uploading them
Most online PDF editors upload your file to their server, process it, and send it back. These tools copy and rearrange page objects in your browser instead. That suits contracts, payslips and medical forms you'd rather not hand to a third party. It also means the work is limited by your device's memory: a 300-page scanned PDF can take a while on a phone.
Which tool to use
- Combine files: merge PDF joins documents in the order you add them.
- Take pages out: split PDF breaks a file apart. Extract pages keeps just the pages you choose, such as the signed page of a contract.
- Fix orientation: rotate PDF turns pages in 90° steps and saves the rotation in the file, so it shows correctly in every viewer.
- Convert: image to PDF turns phone photos of documents into a single PDF. PDF to JPG renders pages as images. PDF to text pulls out the text layer.
- Mark: watermark PDF stamps text such as "DRAFT" or "COPY" across pages.
Limits worth knowing
Password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked first. Scanned documents are images of text, so PDF to text returns little or nothing from them, because that would require OCR. Rebuilding a file can drop interactive extras such as bookmarks, form fields or digital signatures. Keep the original if any of those matter.
