Frequently asked questions
Is this Grade 1 or Grade 2 braille?
This tool produces uncontracted Grade 1 braille — one braille cell per letter, number or punctuation mark. Grade 2 braille uses contractions and shorthand for common words, which this tool does not attempt.
How are numbers represented?
Numbers are preceded by the braille number sign, then use the same cell patterns as letters a–j for digits 1–0, matching the standard braille numbering convention.
How are capital letters shown?
A capital indicator cell is placed before an uppercase letter, following standard Grade 1 braille formatting rules.
Can I use this to actually learn braille?
Yes, it is a handy reference for learning the Grade 1 alphabet and checking your own transcriptions, though it is not a substitute for tactile practice with real braille or professional instruction.
